“If you are trusting in your own strength, you have every reason to be apprehensive, anxious and fearful. What can you predict or control? What is there in you that can be counted on? What would give you the ability to be aware of all the facets of any problem, and to resolve them in such a way that only good can come of it? What is there in you that gives you the recognition of the right solution, and the guarantee that it will be accomplished? Of yourself you can do none of these things.”
This is how Lesson 47 from A Course in Miracles begins, reminding us, in this time of deep transformations and awakening, of how important it is to find an unchanging source of strength and peace within ourselves.
In a world filled with uncertainty and chaos, this lesson, titled “God is the strength in which I trust,” offers a deeper connection to a divine foundation, protection, and guidance.
*** Note: While the original text states, “God is the strength in which I trust,” considering the broader context in which the word “trust” is used throughout the book, I feel that “rely on” might be a more fitting phrase. So, “God is the strength I rely on.” Ultimately, choose the wording that resonates most with you.***
What Does This Lesson Offer to Our Journey Through Life
A Course in Miracles reminds us that everything we seek is already hidden within us. Strength, peace, and security are not external achievements but inner qualities waiting to be awakened.
This lesson helps us realize that relying on external sources such as status, relationships, or accomplishments often leads to insecurity, whereas true security is only found through connection with the divine Source.
As A Course in Miracles states:
“It is obvious that any situation that causes you concern is associated with feelings of inadequacy, for otherwise you would believe that you could deal with the situation successfully. It is not by trusting yourself that you will gain confidence. But the strength of God in you is successful in all things.”
I hope these words resonate with you…
My Favorite Way to Practice This Lesson in Everyday Life
Here are some ways I love to practice it:
Take a few moments during the day to sit in stillness.
Step 1: Awareness and Visualization
- Close your eyes, take a deep breath in, and exhale slowly. Then, silently say to yourself:
“God is the strength in which I trust. / God is the strength I rely on.” - Imagine this thought as a golden cloud of light and consciously breathe it into your energy field. Don’t worry about the details – your intention is what matters most.
If the word “God” doesn’t resonate with you, feel free to use a different term, such as Source, Love, or Light.
Step 2: Examine Your Sources of Reliance
Ask yourself: What am I currently relying on for strength and security? Is it money, relationships, status, or personal achievements?
Remind yourself:
“My core sense of security comes primarily from my connection to God/Source, not from external circumstances.”
Step 3: Raising Your Vibration Regularly
Include activities in your day that fill you with love and joy, raising your vibration. This might be dancing, spending time in nature, savoring a mindful espresso break, meditating, or engaging in creative expression.
Be intentional about the people, books, and content you choose, ensuring they align with your inner light and resonate with higher frequencies of love.
Step 4: Embrace Moments of Weakness
If fear, doubt, or overwhelm arises despite your efforts, be gentle with yourself. Remember: these are merely passing stations on your journey. Instead of judging yourself, observe these moments with neutrality and curiosity – this is the essence of mindfulness.
This approach is crucial for developing inner trust and stability. (If you’re a participant in the TT Mindfulness program, practice the exercises from the TT Synergy cycle for deeper alignment.)
Trusting in Divine Strength Is a Process
Trusting in divine strength means clearly feeling within yourself that everything you need will be provided at the right time. However, trusting in divine strength is not a one-time decision—it’s a process, a practice that is built daily. The purpose of practicing this lesson is precisely to cultivate a deeper level of trust.
Practice relying on this trust whenever you feel overwhelmed or insecure. Use this exercise each time you feel the ground slipping from beneath you or that things are spinning out of control.
In Summary…
Lesson 47 is a powerful reminder that we are never alone in this world. God/Source, as the universal source of love and strength, is always present within us. When we stop seeking security outside ourselves and choose to rely on divine strength, we find the peace, stability, and clarity we’ve always been searching for.
As A Course in Miracles says:
“There is a place in you where there is perfect peace. There is a place in you where nothing is impossible. There is a place in you where the strength of God abides.”
